Up-Cycling And Offsetting Our Carbon Footprint
Our passionate regard for the environment will be reflected in La Casa Della Vita.
Re-use, re-purpose, up-cycle.
Having spent (a little more than!) our life savings on the house purchase (money originally set aside as our pension pot… meh!) I’ve challenged myself to furnish the house and landscape the garden spending as little money as possible….!
We aim to create a unique and artful (as opposed to ‘junk shop’!) style with donations and utilising up-cycling techniques.
For £0 spend on advertising I’m using Instagram and I have (somehow managed!) to create this website myself with a little tech help from Sammy Davis of Akora Design.
Off Setting our Carbon Footprint
Having a building project which will become our lifelong holiday venue (perhaps one day we’ll live there full time) nearly 1000 miles away from where we live is going to rapidly grow our carbon footprint. We feel pretty bad about this so we aim to do all we can to off set it in as many ways as possible- now, during the completion phase then in the future, in how we operate La Casa.
Examples of how we’ll achieve this:
Reduce use of cars as much as possible in daily life both at home in Bristol, UK and whilst in Italy.
Use local trades and materials where possible to reduce mileage.
Use eco-friendly building materials and methods where practical.
Furnish the house with re-cycled, up-cycled or re-purposed items, where possible, practical and safe.
Grow the garden using cuttings and seeds taken from local friends.
Install solar panels and other forms of renewable energy to power and heat the house.
Pool: We will use a natural filtration system to clean the water, zero chemicals. The sun will heat it.
Recycle, recycle, recycle! The council re-cycling bins are 50m from our drive making it easy peasy for us and our guests to use them for the waste, inevitably generated.
Tree Plantation
Vandy’s company, cryptically (!) named ‘Vandy Projects Limited’ has a pledge to plant at least 10 trees per £1000 spent on any client’s project and in this scenario it is our intention from our own spend. He does this via tree nation.
